MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT FOR OCTOBER, 2009
Believe it or not, this is the message for October. That means that our next meeting is November and then our carving show is the very next month. If you haven’t gotten a table assignment, please let us know right away. We would like to see as many members as possible participate in the show. Even if you are not going to sell anything, please think about sharing a table with someone else, or putting a carving or two on the club table for display. Get involved. I promise that it won’t be as hard as you think it is going to be.
Just a few words about the Lean-One-Me project. We will be making a presentation to the veterans on November 7th at our picnic. If you have any canes or plaques done, please bring them in at that time. I know that you folks have really put your hearts and hands in this, and I really want to thank you, but the work is ongoing, and we need your help.. I know our vets really appreciate what you are doing for them. If you need any cut outs, please let Jim Adams or I know, and we will get them to you.
We are rapidly approaching the time for our Carving show in December, and we still need volunteers for several positions. If you would like to help in the kitchen this year, let Walt Duvall or I know. Frank Sospenzi will be in charge of the front table, Dick Falon will be in charge of the raffle table, Keith Manion said that he will take charge of the 50/50 raffle; however, we still need floaters, and other jobs that need to be filled. We still need Christmas ornaments and raffle items for the show. Also if you have carved a head for the friendship cane, please bring it in so that we can assemble the cane.
November is the month that we display our carvings in the libraries around the county, and there was some misunderstanding with the Inverness library, but the rest of the county got covered. Thanks for putting your carvings on display. Pick up will be Monday, November 30th. My thanks to those who took charge of this project.
If you wish to put a carving entry in the Florida State Fair in Tampa, don’t forget that the deadline for registration is the 15th of December. You don’t need to put your carved piece in at that time, but you must register by then.
The Fall Picnic will be held on November 7th, that is this Saturday, at the RecBuilding at WhisperingPinesPark. If you are interested in attending, please let me know how many will be coming in your party. As always, baked ham, meatballs, soft drinks and coffee will be provided by the club. I hope you all can attend. Sign up slips will be available at the meeting. For our snow angles, just drop me an email and let me know you are going to attend, at dmelton6@tampabay.rr.com.
We had talked earlier about having a catered Holiday party, but so many of the members have conflicts, that we sort of gave up that notion, and came up with the idea of having the spring picnic at the senior center in East Inverness, and have that catered. Think about it, and we will discuss it at the meeting.
Don’t forget the library fund. Our next meeting is on Friday, November 6th, at ten thirty, at the library in Inverness. Don’t stay at home, because we are still looking for someone to be president in 2011, and I would be glad to nominate you.
Dave Melton,
President

Old Business:
Dave said he has blanks for the Lean On Me cane project. They will be available at the carving sessions and he had some available at the meeting. Also if you have any finished please get them in. We will be making a presentation at the fall picnic.
Dave also announced that if anyone needs a shirt they need to get the order in. They must be paid for when ordered.
Pam Jones has cutouts of Christmas Ornaments, and they are available today and at the Tuesday and Thursday carving sessions. Please turn in any that you have finished. As of October 29th we have 131 ornaments that have been turned in. We really need help on this project. Last year we had 250 ornaments on the tree at the Carving Show. Also we need items for the raffle table. Right now we have about 10 items. Please turn in any raffle items to Pam Jones. We also need the Nativity and the Friendship Cane project turned in at the November meeting .
Dave also mentioned that the carving show is coming up very soon. We need people to volunteer to take charge of the various events that will be ongoing during the show. The kitchen , raffle table, and Christmas Tree will need people to help out. Pam Jones will have a list at the show for people to help fill in at the show. See her for a place to help out at the show.
If you know any members that are sick or in the hospital, please let Jim Adams or Pam Jones know.
Dave also talked about having a Holiday party. Dave has passed out a questionnaire on whether the members want more social events and it will be discussed more at the next meeting.
A bus trip to the Ft.Myers carving show was also talked about. The cost would be around $25. Per person. Anyone interested let Pam Jones or Dave Melton know. Payment would have to be made when your seat is reserved and it is not refundable. It will be discussed at the next meeting.
The fall picnic will be on November 7th. Members need to let Dave know if they are coming. The club will furnish the ham, pulled pork, meatballs and cold drinks. Members need only to bring a side dish or desert.
